Antique Teak Mortar PATRICE
Antique Teak Mortar
This antique teak mortar from the island of Java retains the shape of the original trunk and the hollow carved into its top. Its rounded silhouette reveals the wood’s growth rings and textured surface.
The grain, cracks and marks of age bring together shades of beige, honey and toasted brown. Its generous size makes it a striking sculptural piece placed directly on the floor, in an architectural corner or on a low, sturdy base.
Teak is a tropical hardwood valued for its durability and the depth it gains with age. In this antique mortar from Java, the patina preserves traces of its history and brings out the growth rings of the original trunk.
The hollow carved into the top reveals its original purpose as a lumpang. Around it, cracks, raised grain and weathered areas create a play of light and shadow that gives the piece its sculptural presence today. Every irregularity is part of its unique character.
To care for it, remove dust with a soft, dry cloth. If needed, use a barely damp cloth and dry it afterwards, including inside the hollow. Avoid standing water and abrasive products.
